It's a lazy, sultry, summer day here on the Georgia Coast. The dragon flies are slowly drifting by, the sky is an azure blue and the clouds look like popcorn. I sit by the sound, Sapelo Sound, and experience the soft, salt laden breeze and aromas of the nearby sea. The "sound" is the convergence of several Georgia coastal tidal rivers, South Newport, Julienton, Sapelo, Mudd, and the Barbour river.

The tide is going out. Time here is marked by the tide and season. We fish, crab, and shrimp off our docks, by the tide. The rhythm of life is as gentle as our summer breeze. We bike the simple lanes of the fishing village of Shellman Bluff, ride the paths of Harris Neck Wildlife preserve. Bird watchers discover the awe inspiring hand of nature in viewing the thousands of egrets, wood-storks and herons, at the rookery, in the nature preserve.

Then there is boating, lots of boating, either for fishing or pleasure. If fishing is your passion we have whatever you desire. Inshore or Offshore. Offshore is Gray's Reef, a fisherman's paradise. Inshore, the tidal rivers, creeks, and marshes are hatcheries and nurseries for all types of salt water aquatic wildlife.

Pleasure boat out into the sound and experience the inspired beauty of our coastal islands. Visit Blackbeard Island for fishing, shelling or just walking on the unspoiled white, sandy beaches. The next island over is Sapelo, home of the 1700's Gullah community of Hogg Hammock. Explore historic Reynolds Plantation, view the distant Sapelo Lighthouse. Yes, rich history abounds in our coastal areas. The historic waterfront town of Darien is just next door. Fort King George was the first settlement in the area. Further along the coast is "The Ridge", built by logging barons for their winter "cottages". Rice, cotton and indigo plantations dot the coastal areas and many communities are built on their footprints. As you can see life on our coast, under the moss laden oaks, is good. Rich in traditions, family and friends…
